I think he's had a ventral hernia repair for diastasis. She's very slender, and had 3 kids. It's not uncommon for women who've had multiple pregnancies to develop a separation of the rectus muscles. Such a repair would likely take a very long time to recover from. Just my theory.

Not in the hospital. Youd go home same day. Full recovery would take a long time. She was in hospital for 2 weeks.
