Isn't RCS a protocol, for which Google has developed their own implementation for Messages? Apple would likely develop their own implementation as well, as Im sure anyone who interfaces with the RCS protocol has done. If thats the case I don't see the irony as I would expect implementations of the protocol to have the ability to be proprietary. Now if governments want to take on opening up proprietary messaging api's to third party developers thats a whole other can of worms than ensuring all mobile devices can interface with a global standard for native messaging.

Google has Jibe which is what some/most of the major carriers use in the USA for Android phones. Be interesting to see what happens how Apple comes in on this, their own branch or universal profile is likely.

yeah I could see fragmentation causing issues between implementations moving forward as new features roll out or as its getting spun up. but i think that is bearable, I can wait for the newest confetti reaction to hit my device. The thing Im not looking forward to with the integration is iPhone users being able to see my read receipts, typing etc.. Its funny I actually prefer, minus videos, texting with iPhone users than other Android users because of the lack of those kind of intrusive features that obviously had to be the idea of someone's gf or wife .
