I'm three episodes in, and I realized two things:
-Why Will Downing has cancer, and what will become of it based on the books
-Who the girl who killed Samwell Tarly really is from the books.
If my assumptions are true, they really are mixing plotlines from the three books, and speeding things along.

I have one more episode to go, and I have to say, despite my misgivings in the beginning, they've done a good job with this show.
Some of the interpersonal relationship stuff is like the WB's version of Three Body Problem, but the rest has been interesting and enjoyable.
