quote:Godaddy is popular but just one of many domain name registrars. You do have to choose one to register a domain in order to have a website and email.
Are most websites registered through godaddy or something comparable?
quote:Yes. Cost depends on which TLD (top level domain like .com or whatever) you want as well as the registrar, whether it's deemed a "premium" domain or whatever, but it's generally in the neighborhood of $20/year.
Does this cost $?
quote:Yes. A lot of registrars also offer hosting services, but you don't have to use theirs.
Also, this will allow me to begin the process of actually creating a website after I have registered the domain name?
A domain name has several types of records, and specifically you will need to change one or more MX (mail exchange) records if you want to use Microsoft's email servers. You will need to look up instructions for getting this set up with your m365 account.
