Grew up doing both hardcore even daily or whatever on a small scale (because grew up in the country). Now I walk trails and work in the woods more then specifically hunting. Mostly just shoot cottonmouths around the ponds. I’m not averse to hunting just out of routine, not in a club, etc. I fish moreso but still not crazy like many guys are. It’s still just fricking fish to me.

I grew up hunting duck, dove, rabbit, and squirrel. We were too poor to be part of a deer lease so I only hunted deer once, and didn't see a thing. Except a shite ton of rabbits and squirrels.

My dad was a school teacher so although we didn't have a lot of money, he had summers off and saved up enough for an aluminum bateau with a 20 horse Mercury that we carpeted nice and added pedestal seats for bass fishing. We would fish all summer long, on week days when we had the Atchafalaya Basin all to ourselves.

During college I got in to bike racing and that took over as my main hobby. I rode and raced pretty seriously for 25 years.

Then around 2019 I got the itch to be out on the water again. I did my research and bought a fishing kayak. Now I fish about 2-3 times a month or more. I'm close enough to the Texas coast to fish inland for reds and specs, and there's lots of ponds, lakes, and creeks for bass.

I also make 2 or 3 trips a year to some epic river for overnight fishing/camping trips.

This spring we are doing 3 days on the Buffalo National River and then 3 days on the South Llano or Guadalupe depending in water levels.

After holding my golden retriever in my arms as he died, I have no desire to hunt anymore. I have nothing against those who do, I just don't feel the urge to shoot animals anymore.

I still bust the frick out of clays with my over/under though.
