re: Good recruiting has to happen before winning championships, not the other way around

If you’re incapable of seeing that we’re recruiting at an extremely high level, you’re blind.
Without question, recruiting is on a fairly significant uptrend. The problem - as always - with LSU recruiting is that there always seems to be a glaring hole. It was tough, for the longest time, to get QBs, offensive tackles and, to a lesser degree, interior DL and linebackers. LSU has, historically, been blessed with more options at corner, receiver, running backs, IOL, edge rushers and TEs than needed.
Under Kelly, OL recruiting (and development) has been well above our historical trend, particularly at tackle, plus the quality and depth at QB. What has shocked longtime fans is the utter lack of talent on the defensive side of the ball. And what high grade talent that is there, it does not appear to be developing. Now, we have had a complete overhaul of the coaching staff on that side of the ball.

And it’s not just acquiring the talent, it’s developing it - something LSU has historically done as well as any school.
Are Harold Perkins and Mason Taylor playing better than they did at freshman? Are we developing talent? Now, to be fair, we clearly weren't developing talent under O - basically they left the same player they showed up as (possibly excepting JB9).
So, can I be happy about the upswing in recruiting and the defensive coaching staff changes and still not wear purple and gold glasses and notice the lack of defensive talent?

Correct. The last recruiting class looked really good on paper except that DT wasn’t really addressed in the strongest way.

This skank was the last “glaring hole”
