In Alaska, they are bad too.
I got suck in a YouTube hole last summer of a retired couple driving up to the Dalton Highway in the summer months. It was pretty warm until they got to the North Slope.
In the summer road crews use the extra daylight and warm weather to work on the road and fix sections that were damaged in the winter time. A lady that was directing traffic had a mosquito net around face to protect her from the mosquitoes.
