It’s because that is/was the rule in other states.

Louisiana used to also have some weird long gun rules back in the 70s and early 80s. I’m a little too young to remember exactly what they were, but it was something like if it was loaded it had to be visible/couldn’t be concealed in your vehicle. Most hunters just had gun racks in their trucks so it didn’t really matter.

shite, up until January of 2023, it was illegal to have a loaded firearm in your vehicle in Alabama.

You were supposed to have the weapon in a secure case and the ammo separate and neither without reach. Retarded law.
