Not really. They are simply related by their subject matter being rooted in Asia. The next one (Tai-Pan) deals with the opium trade in China and has nothing, other than remote geography, to do with Shogun. I would only read King Rat and maybe Tai-Pan in the James Clavell "Asian saga" in addition to the clear winner Shogun.

No Gai-Jin? I really enjoyed that one as well. As mentioned earlier it’s Japan but about 250 years later so Japan is still feudal but there are a lot more westerners. I agree the Shogun is the best of the bunch but to me that feels like the most direct “sequel” (if you can call it that)
