Maybe that was at least part of the point.
Few 18 year olds could buy property at 18 and those who could were either especially industrious and therefore mature in ways that would be important to voting, or they had the support and guidance of responsible families informing their views.

If it was somehow limited to only property purchased through income earned through employment...Id still disagree with it but I would disagree a little less.
