Many times in standard cases, a lawyer isn't going to make that much of a difference. I tell people who hire me for these cases just this. Sometimes they just want to make sure there aren't any angles. Sometimes they want to go to trial.
Criminal law is easy stuff, though.
Family law is easy stuff, too.
Try complex litigation or super specialized fields and most lawyers can't even do those.
