We got married because we had similar interests, enjoyed spending time together, she was hot, and we also are in the same profession.

We are still young, late 30's, but haven't really had any major marital issues. Certainly nothing that would even remotely be something resulting in divorce.

I think one of the biggest benefits for us is not having to worry about finances. We are both doctors, so both make a good living, but more importantly we are both like-minded about finances and spending.

Eta: Kids are also a big benefit to our marriage. We have always made a point of never arguing in front of our children. It eliminates 99% of the retarded spats spouses get in each day.
