In the long run, having more people on food stamps is the not the answer. You're breeding a whole culture of being lazy and getting government assistance

Business owners should have savings and insurance. I know normal farmers carry crop insurance, so I'm sure crawfish farmers can get similar insurance for their product.

Jobs aren't like acorns, you can't just go outside and pick one up off the ground, someone has to actually offer you one. If you're functionally illiterate, you're much less likely to be offered a job.
