Water was too cold to get but I would guess by first week of April that would change
Water temperature on the Atlantic side is about the same compared to the Gulf in the summer and warmer in the winter.
Current temps are 67 degrees in Marco Island, which is too cool to swim comfortably. On the Atlantic side, the water temps in Ft Lauderdale are currently 76 - cool when you dip a toe in, but comfortable once you acclimate. Nine degrees is significant.
In April, you'll probably have 76 on Marco Island and 80ish in Ft Lauderdale. By August, they will be the same.
