I would bet there is far more abuse in public schools than in homeschool environments. Between the violence, drug use and horny teachers, homeschooling is the least of their worries.
This boils down to to two things
1. Money. Public school systems dont get federal dollars for homeschooled kids.
2. They want to be able to teach things to kids they think that kids need to know.
The best way to keep people from homeschooling their kids would be for them to provide a safe place that taught kids reading, writing, history, math and science. All that other crap can be left out.

I have heard people refer to public education as the “free babysitter “, people that home school are the ones vested in their children's education. According to Roger Walters, we don’t need thought control, no dark sarcasm from the classroom
