I mean, that’s what an ignorant person would say. Those that study these things will tell you that genetics and the complexity of the brain allow for varied expression of both sex and gender.

For example, you’re obviously an idiot, but deep inside you feel like you’re an intelligent person. How is that any less of a mental illness than someone thinking they’re trans?

And as an obvious counter to your claim, hermaphroditism exists. Like every other natural phenomenon, sex and gender fall on a spectrum, and don’t occupy two discrete points.
