Had no clue.
I was living in Vicenza, Italy, up north, at the time as part of an Airborne Regiment there. I was at my girlfriend's cottage, woke-up to see the clip being played over and over again on the Italian "Good Morning" Show.
There were at least two similar executions later that year in Southern Italy that many claimed were the result of (encouraged by) this particular event.
