Chain restaurant mockery was intended for most of the posters in this thread, not just you. Nothing personal.
A well-run chain restaurant is much better than a poorly-run local restaurant.
I like what I like. Chain restaurants can make it easier to find acceptable fair when traveling a lot for work. Consistency across locations is what I look for there.
I do usually prefer local places when I find them but I have found a few lately that seem to want a premium price for average food and seem to feel entitled to get that because they are a local place.
I will say that owning and running a local restaurant is a grind, I would not want to do it.

Didn’t realize we had so many blue-collar posters that love their Applebees type establishments.

I travel a lot as well. I always do my homework and find locally owned restaurants in the area I will be. The 10 minutes of research is worth not having to eat Chili’s baby back ribs for dinner.

Why do you want consistency? Are you a picky eater? I want the opposite of consistency when I travel. I want to sample what that town has to offer. What’s the fun in eating something I could get at home?
