CCUS requires energy. Lots of it. But if you power it with low carbon energy (ie nuclear) then there is opportunity to significantly reduces co2 emissions.

Aside from being stored underground, CO2 can be captured, reacted with hydrogen made by splitting water with electricity (from nuclear), then turned back into building block chemicals.
