third places get turned to absolute shite by the public. think of all the fun places when we were younger. hang out at the mall, astroworld for vacation, local parks and hang outs. culture and vandalism closes those places down or makes them undesirable.

This is the main issue. Most people are trash now and have no respect for other people or their property.

Exactly this.
Where would I go to hang out?
Even church basketball courts have shootings.
There are still active third places around. You pay money to attend them at a country club.

I think you're right here. Anything free in the city attracts a particular crowd which makes it unbearable.
