Nobody in there right minds would or can play/sustain zone defenses vs bama, aubbie, Tenn, Fla when they shoot the ball from 3 as well as they do

Well LSU couldn't sustain sticking man in any of those games either. When I say zone, I'm not talking some middle school 2-3 where everybody is inside the 3 point arc. You can mix it up and ramp up or down the pressure as is needed through the course of a game. Also can extend or pack it in to combat the particular strength of the opposing team. Some of these hybrid matchup zones play very similar to man, but are better at providing help to defenders getting beat off the perimeter because the guys off ball are already in a position to help

All acceptable criticisms. I wish he would have gone to 1-3-1 earlier in the Fl game. Remains to be seen whether Mcmahon can develop into a great coach but he deserves the opportunity to do it with better talent which he should have next year. If Mwani had been healthy all year I think he would have been the lockdown guard we needed. All of the other guards are beat off the dribble to easily. Ward and Cook especially. But the bigs are slow to rotate off the high screens especially Baker. Reed is the big disappointment and it looks like effort to me with him. Plays too lackadaisical and relies on his natural athletic ability to recover from lazy defense. He should be thriving under the boards and avg a double/double but wants to play outside too much and too much finesse going to the rim. Needs to go hard at the rim and get the fouls.

You are absolutely correct. I do believe we could and should mix it up more. We just don’t have the talent on either ends of the floor. Yet. It’s quite evident that Coach put an emphasis on length which has helped. McMahon’s teams, while flawed and extremely lacking in talent show an understanding of very simple defensive principles. Weak side and help defense being paramount. It’s refreshing to see because our previous regime certainly didn’t. I remember listening to Tari talk being asked why the defense in the private 5th year seems to show some improvements. Tari said he actually had to teach his staff on help defense.
