What’s crazy is I find nowadays I have to make restaurant reservations longer in advance than ever before. Maybe if prices reached a less affordable level there would be more availability.

I've noticed that as well.
Ruth's Chris in BR, far from cheap, requires a 2-week lead time for a Friday/Saturday night at a prime time.
People are going out despite the prices.
