Yep. My dad's side of the family lived there. One of my cousins was actually a deputy that worked for Pusser and he would discuss the case from time to time. He believes Pusser's Corvette was sabotaged and it was no accident. Said the PD never could prove it.
My cousin would go with Pusser on some of his excursions. He said the film got it right - Pusser would roll up into establishments and just start destroying everything as the old baws watched. If they tried to fight, Pusser would just beat the shite out of them. Yes, they all were armed, but there was nothing they could do. Can't shoot a Sheriff in public.
As for Pusser's wife, he never discussed it much. (I would only see him at family gatherings and what not, so it's not like I talked to him frequently). I have never got the vibe that Pusser had his wife killed. That sounds like revisionist history to me, quite honestly.
