The climax of the movie is the narrator rejecting his relationship with Tyler (as well as all the ideas/excuses Tyler believed in) and embracing his relationship with Marla.
Yeeeeeah this is the whole thing right here that lets you know the movie/book was satire. It appeals to teenage/college aged boys (like me when I made my handle) because it represents the shite we want to do at that age in life (say frick it all, live in a shitty house with all our friends, cause mayhem and laugh about it, feel openly angry at *gestures wildly* and experience few if any repercussions for our actions). It’s the ultimate “what if i let the impulses of my Id dictate everything i do” fantasy movie. And it’s fun as hell, don’t get me wrong.
But then you get to the end and realize Tyler is not only self destructive but outwardly destructive as well. Id left totally unchecked is disastrous on multiple levels.
And in the end, he rejects it all. Oh, and the movie is homoerotic as frick; Tyler Durden wouldn’t come across nearly as cool to guys if it was just Jason Segel walking around shirtless and stealing bags of liposuction fat to make soap
