Can Emery Jones play DT? if so, there is the move, but prolly won't happen. Put Bordelon or Davis at RT.

How I see it could happen to make the best of a light group of DL for 2024:

NT
1. Jacobian Guillory 6'2 320
2. Shone Washington 6'4 315
3. Add an experienced guy from the Portal (1-2 years remaining) 6'3 330 type build
4. Paul Mubenga 6'5 315 (back to OL in 2025)
5. De'Myrion Johnson 6'2 305 (Hit the weight room kid)

DT
1. Experienced guy from the portal to come in and start (1-2 years remaining) 6'4 315 body type
2. Jalen Lee 6'3 315
3. Dominick McKinley (Hit the weight room kid) 6'5" 295
4. Savion Jones 6'6 280-290 (for backup or he excels here due to extra weight gain last year)
5. Tyree Adams 6'7 310 (for extra Backup) (back to OL 2025)

The above gives us 10 guys to man 2 positions- NT and DT. If Savion Jones can play the DT position, then he slides inside, because he looked slow at the DE position last year, as we have Swinson, Womack, Howard, Reliford, and co. who can man those DE positions. Get one bad-arse DE in the Portal and we re fine. But I feel good with Swinson 6'4 265 and Womack 6'5 275 starting in 2024. If Savion Jones is in better shape for 2024 and is better to start him then he stays at DE but about 270 to be quicker, but he is a depth piece at 4th string at DT.

With the way the transfer portal is today, and needed tampering for big programs like LSU to fill gaps, I am sure there are at least 2 experienced big name guys that we will get in the spring portal, where I already plugged one as a starter at DT. This is LSU, with Brian Kelly, with bad arse Bo Davis waiting to coach stud players, so we will be fine!

An ideal guy would be a 4-5 star 3rd string guy at Georgia or Tenn. or even Bama. Go in the back alleys and get him a nice NIL deal and promise a starting spot on LSU Defense working with Baker, Davis and Peoples. This is LSU, Brian Kelly, with bad arse Bo Davis waiting to coach stud players.

Starters and backups for 2024 (3 Deep):

DE- Womack 6'5 275, Savion Jones 6'6 280, Jax. Howard 6'4 260
DT- Stud transfer from Georgia/Clemson/Bama 6'4 315, Lee 6'3 315, McKinley 6'5 295
NT- Guillory 6'2 320, Shone Washington 6'4 315, Portal guy, Mubenga 6'5 315 (for backup)
DE- Swinson 6'4 265, Paris Shand 6'5 280, Reliford 6'3 270

Coach em up and we will be fine for 2024. Remember, we are building 2 dominate classes for 2025 and 2026 with mostly high school players. When we get through this Defensive Line shortage ONLY for this year, look out! I think the above players are serviceable and with good coaching they can be surprising (Top 40-50 Defense). Key is get 2 great experienced players at NT and DT and maybe luck out for a good DE/Pass rusher, that would give us another DE who can get ton the QB.

I feel good about LB with Perkins, Penn and Whit Weeks. Also, Atkins, Singleton, Keys and Cobbins will all be super athletic and we will be more attacking of the QB with these athletes.

I wonder if Makaneole can do it. I'd much rather a 4th year guy that is never gonna see a minute on the line rather than an up and comer like Mubenga. He's also a grown man in his body by this point, and can at least serve spring camp reps to keep other guys fresh.

Connor Gilbreath is another large human, with TE "athleticism" that can maybe move since he'll never play TE. We have a bunch of RFr and Freshman in the 2 deep on the o-line. It seems premature to start moving them.

I don’t think a kid can transfer within the SEC after February 1?
So the post-spring guys you are looking at will be kids who are upset they weren’t starting in the spring at a non-SEC school. And not sure why such a kid wouldn’t have jumped in the portal originally.
And I don’t see any natural DL in our OL depth. Expecting someone who is a 3rd string OT to be a starting DT doesn’t seem realistic
