The ridiculously over complicated roof designs and even the ridiculously steep pitch all adds up. Yes more materials, more labor, more cost.

You're normally going to pay a standard rate to your roofer on roofs 7/12 pitch and lower. Once you get to a 8/12 pitch, steep charges start kicking in. The price goes up the steeper the roof because the work becomes harder and harder the steeper it gets. Unless you're dead set on having a steep, cut up, not practical roof, go with a more simplified roof design.
