My in-laws are in their late 70s and have been married 50+ years and still love the hell out of each other and they have had separate bedrooms for 40 of those years. They claim it's the secret!

Father in law, when his daughter isn't around obviously, tells me he would sneak into the mom's room at 2 am then leave right after and it was like he was doing something bad which made it more fun

ETA:

My wife and I have a king with memory foam mattress (latex topper) and we don't disturb each other except on the rare occasion I drink too much and fall asleep on my back and snore. Then I get a swift kick to my ribs and roll over and stop snoring.

King bed with memory foam really makes it feel like you're alone in the bed.
