Bertman was the worst by far for letting Mal Moore bring Nick to Bama instead of giving Miles a buyout and bringing Nick back to LSU.

Worst decision in sports history

It’s Why Nick us still salty towards LSU

Miles had just won 11 games and the Sugar Bowl. No one would have fired him to hire someone who just bombed out in in the NFL. No one knew what Saban would later accomplish.

this is so stupid. Could you imagine the laughingstock lsu would’ve been at the time across the media and country if they fired Les Miles at that time? Back to back 11 win seasons and then in the third year he won a national championship. How dumb would you look to fire someone with no cause with that track record? Good Lord

only when viewed with 20 years of hindsight and not with the info available at the time that decision was made.

Les was just finishing up his 3rd 11 win season.
had actually won more games with Nick's players than Nick won with Nick's players.

NOBODY saw what Nick did at Alabama coming. and if anybody says they did, they're lying to you.
Sure everyone thought he would be good and maybe even bring them a title. But there wasn't a single person anywhere that truly saw him becoming the greatest coach ever in his sport.

Hell at the time, Urban Meyer at Florida was considered to be better than Nick. Les wasn't given that respect yet, but was winning at a rate that was being spoke of very highly.
So Saban wasn't even thought of as the best coach in the SEC when Bama hired him. Let alone the best the entire sport had ever seen.

Bergman tripped on his d*ck over that one. Biggest mistake in college athletics ever.
