What the F is an "Emotional Affair" ?

In my book you're either F'ing someone or you're not.

What the F is an emotional affair ?
Just some new thing for women to accuse their boyfriends/husbands of when they aren't actually having an affair ?

Women are nuts.

EDIT: This started because my girlfriend accused me of having an affair with a woman from work that she met at this years Christmas Party.
When I convinced her that I wasn't sleeping with the woman at work, she then accused me of having an Emotional Affair.

I laughed and said "What the F is even that?"
