I saw Rory responded. Nice to see he’s much more level headed about everything now that he’s removed himself from the board.

Pretty much explained that if you read the full interview you could tell the interviewer sort of led Gooch to making that comment about asterisks so he was giving him the benefit of doubt with his answer. Seemed like he basically just agreed with the interviewer. He did go on to explain how Niemann was playing to earn his invite & Gooch wasn’t.

It is pretty strange the change in his tone with LIV things.
quote:

Mellroy has offered countless comments on LIV and the golfers heading there in recent years, ranging from outrage ("I hate what it's doing to the game of golf. I hate it. I really do," he said after winning the FedExCup in August 2022) to eventually striking a more conciliatory tone ("I can't judge people for making that decision," he said in recent months). When Rahm left for LIV in December, McIlroy told Sky Sports that he wants Ryder Cup eligibility rules to be rewritten because "I certainly want Jon on the next Ryder Cup team."

When Mellroy was asked for a response to his former agent Chubby Chandler recently suggesting that he might actually join LIV, the response: "He might know a few things. Who knows?"

Honestly can’t tell if he’s just messing with the reporter or being serious.
