Absolutely this.

The crux of this whole tax issue is the comingling of EBR Parish and City of BR budgets.

What should happen is:

St George keeps a portion of their tax dollars, and in exchange, has to provide a portion of government services. So EBR parish loses revenue, but also cuts expenses.

What actually happens because of consoidated goverment is:

Consolidated EBR / City of BR loses tax dollars, but the tax dollars they are losing is more than the expenses that will be cut.

This is a huge complaint for the St George people... that they are funding more than the services they are getting.

And the city of BR people are saying... you are completely correct... tough titties, we need the money more than you do.

That's the best explanation I have seen on it. The irony of the City of BR's argument that St. George wouldn't fiscally viable is great, considering the money from St George is the only thing balancing their budget currently. I am also interested to see what happens with the what should be roughly $200 Million that should have been owed to St George since 2019.

I’m sure that bought a lot of catered lunches for SWB.

The city of BR should not care at all about the finances of the city of St George.

That discussion should not even be allowed in court.

It would be like the city of Kenner caring about the city of Houston.
