Funny enough, this is why the "big man" has been leaving the game. People think that it's due to offensive-skill issues, but the primary culprit is defense. The NBA got a wake up call in 2002 when Ben Wallace, Mr. Defense/DPOY was unplayable in the FIBA championships b/c our opposition would just run picks until hew as iso'd away from the goal and he was EMBARASSED.
I imagine the overlap between the people back in those days bitching about our players' lack of skills and "street ball" and the people bitching today opining for a return to "street ball", while calling the modern offense "street ball", is massive.
