Is it possible he was overweight and now he is at puberty and trying to lose weight to be more attractive to girls?
14 is a tough age. Could be hormones, could be wanting to just lose weight, or could be bullying/stress. Kids at that age are mean as frick to each other

All this is entirely possible, but if I don’t know for sure, I don’t know where else to go as far as a medical standpoint
