This has got to be in the Sad Song Hall of Fame.

The way death row works now, he would be singing for a loooong time.

the Sad Song Hall of Fame
Anyway, it's not even the saddest Mama Jail song:
The Everly Brothers - "I'm Here To Get My Baby Out of Jail"

Great great song.
My vote for saddest song is "The Grand Tour" by Jones, particularly if you buy into Tyler Mahan Coe's theory that it's about a woman and baby who died during a delivery.
Waiting Around to Die in the Heartworn Highways documentary with Uncle Seymour crying in the background is pretty brutal too (he had terminal cancer at the time).
