I didn’t think that someone could be released from their NLI unless it was the head coach that changed schools. I don’t know if it also applies when an assistant coach changes schools

The school can choose to release them if they want

Texas would have to grant his release. It wouldn't make sense to not grant it considering he can just transfer next season.
