With the 12 team playoff, Bama can lose 4 games a season and still be in contention. There is a lot of cushion for them to still succeed, and when they inevitably lose (they always did with Saban), the SEC and media will still be there to save them.

Well said. Nothing will really change. The REC will still white knight for Bama, regardless of who is coaching them. All the 12-team playoff does is virtually assure that they will be in the mix every year. While the jury is still out on DeBoer, they seem to be hitting one home run after another hiring assistant coaches. We're about to get stuck with the OC they've been trying to unload for over a year.
