It is actually not at all about being wet, but all about his scent. Since dogs sense of smell is 40 times greater than humans, the tend to have strong cases of neophilia as it pertains to smell. Meaning they have an instinctive reaction to new and interesting odors that we may find repulsive. He is rolling around on the carpet to try and get some of his old scent back on him. A dogs odor is a big contributor to their self confidence, it is like a status symbol. Hunting breeds like Beagles in particular love having the smell of a kill on them and wear it like a badge of honor. I learned all this after walking my 1st Cane Corso and wondering why in the ever-loving hell did she like rubbing the side of her jowls on small nasty arse roadkill like frogs and lizards. She would do it to earthworms on the sidewalks after heavy rains too.
