Ever since Bush, it's been a cycle of the same memes rotating from each perceived in group to the next. 2008 was when the DEMs re-took the Presidency, so you had all the irrationality of the GWB hate flip to "conservatives" fixated on Obama. That flipped again after 2016, and then again after 2020.
i mostly agree with you here, but the difference is, in my opinion (and i am aware that i have a clear side in this and am not objective...but then again none of us is), that what the Left accuses the Right of being is absolutely batshit insane (literally Hitler, gays in concentration camps, blacks back in chains). for the MOST part, what the Right accuses the Left of is pretty much accurate (albeit a little screechy and a little sky-is-fallingish). i mean how much of the COVID stuff that the Right accused the Left of early on ended up being pretty much right? a LOT of it. but if you said that then, you were accused of literally wanting people to die in the streets. that is not hyperbole.
so anyways, i think i mostly agree with you, but i dont think there is a completely valid centrist "both sides are just as bad" argument here. i DO think the conservatives misjudged the Bill Clinton impeachment stuff back in the 90s, which certainly poured gas on the fire, but i agree with you that the mid nineties conservative takeover of congress was probably the true igniter of the modern day vitriol.

i think it was severely misjudged... but... but... if i slept with a bunch of women while in a position of power and then lied to a jury, congress, and the American people about banging an intern in the Oval Office, we all would be serving time.
he did it, as ridiculously inconsequential as the action itself was, and then lied under oath.

Perhaps I should introduce you to the birther movement and the "Obama is really a secret Muslim supporting radical extremists" rhetoric
I mean I think Biden is part of a family of grifters and bribe takers and all of that, but you have a large population who literally believes he's part of a Satanic child raping ring, along with lots of other Democrat leaders.
The insane framing is not a one-way street.
