For my daughter and us, I think it was mostly enjoyment. Travel a little and compete with friends.

She quit competitive dance to focus on ballet before high school though. She ended up a company member of our local ballet, paid once she hit 18. Quit after a few years at LSU.

We had a deal with her regarding dance in general, keep your grades up and you can keep dancing. She finished HS with a 4.0 and graduated from LSU in dietetics with a 4.1. Currently pursuing her master's at Fran U. We think her desire to dance and our insistence that her grades not drop meant she couldn't be too involved in less desirable extracurriculars in HS and probably kept her a bit more grounded than a lot of other kids.
