I think the OP, and many others, are completely overanalyzing this. Heard is an in-demand prospect at an in-demand position. Coaches at other schools probably saw he was unlikely to be guaranteed a starting tackle spot at LSU next season and (through back channels) reached out to see if he would be interested in "working" for them. This happens EVERY.SINGLE.DAY in business throughout the country.
Someone who really wants Heard's services probably floated out a number which he then took to LSU to match/exceed. For their part, LSU probably evaluated the status of the OL (which appears to be in very good shape) along with the fact they have other NIL obligations, and decided the cost to match/exceed wasn't the best move to make.
I don't blame Heard. He's a 19 year old man getting offered a six-figure "salary" by multiple potential employers. No one would bash a 19 year old plant worker for leaving his current employer to do the same job elsewhere for a higher salary. So why is a college football player a "dumb kid" for doing so?
