The Methodist church across the street from my old house in an older part of town lost many of its congregants when it started bringing in liberal pastors.

I remember in 2008-2010 when it still filled the parking lot on Sundays. Then they brought in their first real liberal pastor. Church activities slowed and the Sunday services weren't as full. They brought in their next liberal pastor about 2017-2018. Attendance dropped even more. It finally shut down in 2021. The Catholic Church across the street bought it after that for more school space.

If you teach people that they can do anything they want as long as it is couched as "love" and that they cannot be "judged" by anyone, then they no longer need a church to go to. They have built one around themselves and their malleable morals: the church of "me."
