The congregation has a contractually stipulated covenant to purchase the property from the parent church for an extremely low value as compared to the market price in the event of a split (e.g., $1mm vs. $50mm). So it is certainly part of the issue, but for the opposite reasons I think you proffer.

The "new" leadership is in the tank for the parent church, and for generally feminizing things up.

Speaking to one of the n.o. Churches minister and board members, the story was that churches voting to leave had to buy the property (they didn’t mention any favorable terms) and the employee pensions on a short timeline after they voted to leave.

They were of the opinion that rich congregations were the only ones who could afford to keep the church. Allegedly, Metairie and Lake Vista overwhelmingly voted to leave.
