Westerners been writing about this since at least the 19th century. Lord Acton, who wrote that absolute power corrupts absolutely, was worried about it. Technology is why we're less free, because it empowers fewer and fewer people to exert more and more control over the masses.
Industrialization is probably when things got worse for most people. Up to that time, ordinary people were masters of their fate in a way that we don't appreciate.

I would say the federal reserve creation was the beginning of the end. In the end it will be worldwide socialism.
