re: Wayfair CEO: Employees need to work longer hours

quote:
How out of touch with reality and how narcissistic to believe that your employees actually care about the well being of your company? They just want the paycheck for hours worked. Want more hours? Pay more money. Even then, employees deserve a life away from work and will be happier to contribute to their profession if it’s not owning their entire existence.
The problem with this CEO statement is that it only “motivates” a small portion of top performers that are wanting to climb the ladder at the company.
The majority of a company are worker bees that want to clock in and out, doing the minimum required to get paid and have stability. Work is simply a mechanism to pay bills.
Now, the CEO could try to rotate his employment base towards the “go getter” crowd that will buy into the message but the problem is after a few years you get a bunch of frustrated folks working their tails off without upward mobility they expect (because everyone can’t get promotions).
So…he’s talking to above 10-20% of his population and the other 80% are eye rolling or worse.

The other 80% are more than likely replaceable.
