Jayden Daniels has several headwinds to achieving his proper recognition.
First, his team did not win a Natty. That's huge. QBs are unfairly burdened with the obligation to have championship teams. That obligation completely ignores the responsibility of the defense and special teams over which the QB has no control. A great QB might be able to carry an average defense, but no QB can carry an abomination.
Second, within the LSU fanbase, there is, and always will be, a segment that wanted Nuss over Daniels. Many of the Nuss Bussers from the 2022 season and early 2023 got behind Daniels as the season progressed. Many did not, and those fans will take every opportunity to downplay Daniels' success. You will see one or more of them in every thread about Daniels.
Third, to many fans at LSU and elsewhere, Daniels is a running QB or a dual threat QB with the negative connotation of being runner not a passer or at least not a passer first. They have not recognized the simple facts that Daniels had a higher passer rating, a higher yards per pass attempt, and the same TD:INT ratio as another LSU Heisman winner, Burrow. Burrow had a higher comp% than Daniels and more passing yards per game, but Daniels had more total yards per game and more yards per play. But, MORE IMPORTANTLY, you will always read about Burrow being better than Daniels in QUALITATIVE categories. You will continue to see posts about Burrow reading a defense better than Daniels, Burrow being a better "overall" QB, Burrow having "it," or Burrow being mentally or physically tougher than Daniels.
Burrow and Daniels are on a different level from other college QBs. That should be enough. But some will focus on the fact that Burrow won a Natty, and Daniels did not, while ignoring that Burrow had a defense, and Daniels did not.
