it's actually called a fractured tooth, and if you're having pain, then yes, a nerve is exposed. you'll need a root canal, but they aren't as bad as ppl say.
your dds will make sure you are numb.
you'll need a crown as well though, and those are pricey af so prepare yourself for that.
and don't let them try to offer you a silver crown (trashy af). go with the tooth colored option- pricier but worth it. imho fwiw.

Right around $1300 for everything. Dentist recommended a Zirconia crown. I don't know if this is good, bad, or indifferent. He said they used to use gold, then it was porcelain, and now its Zirconia.
