Not the case here I'm sure, but there are ppl who will steal pit bulls and such for dog fighting.

He will be used as a "bait" dog for teaching fighting dogs. It is horrible. I hope I'm wrong.

They also steal "nice" large breed dogs to train the pit bulls how to kill. Know a guy who had an elderly golden retriever stolen and they caught the guy before he essentially served it up to his fighting dogs. Dog was returned thankfully, but that was the plan.
Additionally, that's an expensive breed of dog if it's not neutered (stud fees). He can probably sell it for $1,000 or more (if he lies about it being deaf and it's young, which I doubt he knew). Or he can stud it out.
That's why people steal French Bulldogs (see Lady Gaga)
