What I find as disingenuous about wholesale bashing of unions is the argument of " why do you need to collectively negotiate?"

Is that how you want to be evaluated and compensated???

I sure as frick do not.

Why do you care if other people do? You’re passionately against other people making their own decisions about their employment. Why?

So you are okay with getting fricked in a large organization? Because that is what you are saying. You are thinking that your direct supervisor see that ole Roger is a real go getter and he wants a few bucks more and you are thinking that based on recommendation of supervisor someone up the latter is going to give ole Rog that money?

Maybe in a smaller organization, but in behemoths like Ochsner, that determination is made by someone who does not even know the supervisor....so you get fricked on your request.

Oh, but then I will take my skills elsewhere and negotiate what I'm worth. If you are a skilled hourly worker.....good luck. The employer knows then that they collectively have you as an individual over a barrel....usually face down.

It beats the frick out of going individually and negotiating against 4 or 5 levels of management who will poor mouth you.

Like I said, if management can operate as a collective, why can't the workers they depend on to make their salaries
