The average salary in Europe is much less in general. One of my exes friends in france was an engineer at Airbus barely cracking what would be about $50k here in the US.

When I worked at labor, I worked with this Belgian lady who said she made more there in one year than her mom did.
Her mom was a 30 year bureaucrat in the government.
