The translation is that ESPN wanted a better storyline because they figure FSU/Michigan would be a snoozer and a Michigan/Alabama game would draw more eyeballs with a later compelling storyline if they won and then faced Texas in the Final

Harbaugh vs Saban in the Semifinal
Alabama came from being the Eighth ranked team to being on the verge of an unprecedented National Championship
If Alabama reaches the Final against Texas....
Saban against his former assistant Sarkisian
Avenge the first game loss in the absolute final game of the season.
